COSTS - Payment/Shipping/Discounts/Other
Payment
Shipping will take place from mid-April to mid-May for bare root trees. On bare root tree pre-orders (June-January) we will defer payments until January. For pre-orders over $1000 ( late May to March 20), a 25% deposit will be taken with full payment by March 20.
From January to mid-May payments will be taken soon after the order is confirmed by us.
For seed sales payment is taken on ordering. Orders are taken from September 1 to December 1. Delivery of seed will take place after harvest, usually mid-October to late November. We will prepare seed for stratification and send instructions for handling with the seed.
For all other sales, payment will be taken on ordering and delivery will take place immediately.
A 20% restocking fee will be charged on all cancelled orders after March 1.
Payment Options:
All payments must be completed before shipping. Payments by check must have time to clear before shipping, so we do not accept checks after March 15.
American orders are quoted in US dollars and are to be paid in US funds. This helps to cover the extra cost of inspection, brokerage and shipping across the border. Most of these costs are paid by us in US funds. Shipping and handling rates are given on the order form or appear at the checkout.
Customers may pay by the following methods: cash, US or Canadian personal or business check, Visa and MasterCard. Please do not send cash in the mail. We require 3 weeks for checks to clear before we ship.
Movement Inspection & Certificate for Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan
Please note that we are required to get an inspection and movement certificate for gypsy moth from the plant protection office to ship trees to western provinces in Canada. This is an added cost.

Hours of Operation
We are open daily from 10-5, and closed Sunday and Mondays. We offer a limited selection of potted trees, nuts and other products during spring, summer and fall. Since we have limited staff during the summer and winter which are our off-seasons, there may be days when we are closed. If you are coming from a distance it would be best to contact us 36 hours in advance.
Our address is 979 Lakeshore Rd, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada L0S 1J0.
Potted trees are priced higher than the bare root spring sales because of the added expense of labour, materials and maintenance. Email or call ahead to be sure that what you want is available. Fresh nuts are available from early October until sold out
Shipping
All of our trees are spring dug and shipped or picked up as soon as weather permits. Our shipping season starts mid-April and ends the second week of May for some plants and the third week of May for the rest. For American orders, the cut-off date is the first week of May. WE DO NOT SHIP TREES OR SCION WOOD TO EUROPE. NO TREES ARE SHIPPED IN THE FALL.
Products shipped to most Ontario & Quebec locations will be delivered by Canpar, so street addresses are required not box numbers. All other provinces will receive their parcels in the mail by Canada Post, usually to their local or assigned postal outlet.
All parcels to the United States will be shipped by UPS through our freight forwarder. Sorry we cannot send nuts for eating to the USA due to FDA bioterrorism law requirements. We can send seed to the US with a nursery inspection certificate at a cost of $15 for the inspection and phytosanitary crertificate.
We include planting and care instructions with all tree orders, but no packing slips, so it is important that you save a copy of the order confirmation placed with us.
Guarantee
We guarantee that our trees will leaf out and grow, provided they are handled properly, planted in the ground and not in pots, following the planting instructions provided with the trees. A statement to that effect must be in writing and a picture of the failed tree(s) are required as proof. In some instances we require the return of the tree(s) or in the case of grafted trees, the grafted portion for evaluation.
Losses due to a poor planting site, wet location, improper soil, more than one killing frost event, a planting in a zone not recommended, neglect, lawn mower or dog chain damage, etc. are not covered. Losses must be reported before September 1 but not sooner than June 20 for full replacement compensation. All such trees will be replaced free of charge the following spring, or refunded at the time of claim. We do not guarantee trees that do not survive the winter. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to protect the trees adequately for the first winter even if they are in a recommended plant zone.
We have the right to choose to refund for the value paid, or replace the trees as described below.
Nuts and seeds - no exchanges or refunds are permitted. However, please contact us if the in-shell nuts for eating are poor quality.
Tree shelters, books, nut crackers, and harvest tools - exchanges and refunds are permitted with customer paying for return shipment.
Replacement Follow Up
Once approval for a replacement is provided, we require that you re-order the lost tree with all your information. In the comment section, please include a copy of our written replacement approval and we will remove the charges and send you a copy. If other trees are ordered with the replacement(s), only the replacement tree(s) are exempt from charges. The order needs to be received in a timely manner to be sure that your tree(s) are reserved for you.
All replacements will be provided the following spring and are only replaced at the same value paid.
Commercial growers who receive discounted rates for the trees are limited in the refund/replacment policy to a max of 3% of trees purchased. Growers without discounts can claim up to 10% replacement of trees purchased. Losses average 1-2%. Any higher rate is not normal and we will work with the grower to find a solution to prevent future losses.
